Steve McIntire
Elder
Steve McIntire is an Elder at San Juan Baptist Church.
The Lord is good. That is so evidenced in my life as I look back on it.
I was born in Iowa to my parents, Tom and Ruby McIntire, but spent most of my first 11 years growing up in Southern California in a suburb of Los Angeles. Though our family was nominally a Christian family, only my mother modeled a faithful life for myself and my two brothers.
For years I resisted any real commitment to God because I was too busy doing the things I wanted and didn't really have a place in my life for faith. Then one day, at 16 years old, I finally gave in and went to a Christian camp in the Sierra Nevada's. I went to a place I didn't want to go, met people I didn't want to know and came away with a Savior who has changed my life forever. My commitment to grow in Christ wasn't really complete until the day my unsaved father found Jesus and asked me if I ever was going to be saved. Oh the shame and conviction.
I finished high school, went to college and became an accountant, worked for a bank and an airline and then went on a short term missions trip to Alaska which turned into a year and half with Arctic Missions.
In 1999, my wife Shiela, daughter Shannon, son Brennan and I moved to Port Townsend and were intending to try out the various churches in town, but came to San Juan Baptist, visited once, and never left.
Now I am mostly retired after 43 years in school districts and am serving as an elder at San Juan Baptist Church. I teach an adult Sunday School class studying theology and have been the Facilities and Audio Visual Team Leader in past assignments. As I said at the beginning, the Lord is good.
